There are a lot of meatloaf varieties out there.
Seemingly every family has its own, super-secret family meatloaf recipe. Unless, of course, you grew up in a meatless household as I did—and no, that wasn't a gay joke. Some meatloaf recipes throw in unique additions, like bacon or a soft-boiled egg, but one recipe, in particular, has the internet chattering. The secret ingredient? Revenge.
It all started when a redditor shared the recipe earlier this month. Shared as a screenshot of the original Tumblr post, the story unfolds beautifully.
"When I was little my mom's meatloaf was my favorite food," the original poster wrote. "But ONLY her meatloaf. I didn't like anyone else's, and she told me that she would teach me how to make it when I was older."
The story goes on to reveal that at 19, OP was finally old enough to be trusted with the recipe. They were only allowed to learn it under the condition that they would never, EVER tell anyone else.
"Anyway, she was super fucking homophobic and abusive to me when I told her I was gay, so here's the recipe," the post reads. The poster dubbed the recipe "revenge loaf."

I've never had revenge meatloaf before, but I assume it tastes like delicious, rainbow-tinted vengeance. In order to prepare your own helping of sweet—or should I say savory—justice, you'll need 4-6 pounds of ground beef or turkey, one packet of onion soup or ranch mix, one tablespoon of ketchup, one tablespoon of spicy brown mustard, one tablespoon of barbecue sauce, one tablespoon of steak sauce, and one egg. Just mix it all together, and shape into a loaf. Bake the whole thing at 350 degrees for two hours. Or, as OP invites you to do, cook it for "two and a half if you're feeling dangerous."
As it turns out, revenge is best served hot and with a side of mashed potatoes.
The recipe might have wallowed in minor fame, sequestered to a corner of Reddit if not for Marjorie Ingall. She shared the recipe on Twitter Friday, where it quickly caught the internet's attention.
"Last night my LGBT kid told me about Revenge Meatloaf and tonight I made Revenge Meatloaf," she wrote.

There was some real concern over the amount of meat called for in the recipe. Ingall admitted the resulting loaf, after using the low end of recommended meat, was "fucking humungous."
"Bulged out of my biggest loaf pan. And no bread crumbs! It was a MEAT WAD. Definitely tasty," she tweeted.
