Fake arm or an umbrella gun? Video of Miley Cyrus’ bodyguard on Grammys red carpet prompts speculation

A video of Miley Cyrus walking alongside her bodyguard at the Grammy Awards on Sunday launched a new conspiracy among some fans that he was secretly armed.

"Pay close attention to Miley Cyrus’s bodyguard in this video at the Grammys all is not as it seems," wrote one user on X, racking up over 78,000 likes.

The conspiracy centers on the bodyguard directly to Cyrus' right, who some users believe was surreptitiously carrying a concealed firearm.

"Auto firearm dressed as an umbrella?" replied someone else.

Another person took it a step further, theorizing the bodyguard was employing a fake arm.

"Fake arm holding umbrella. So arm is under coat presumably with a weapon," concluded one user. "Completely unnecessary at the Grammy Awards. This bodyguard is a clown. But in serious environments the fake arm is a common tactic."

Someone else posted a graphic purporting to show how the bodyguard concealed the firearm, noting that in one still frame from the video, one arm appears longer than the other.

"In this picture, you will notice that Miley has no right arm," quipped someone in response.

That user isn't the only person not buying into the theory, especially given that Los Angeles—where the Grammy Awards were held—was under a state of emergency and at risk of flash flooding. According to the National Weather Service, downtown Los Angeles saw 4.10 inches of rain on Sunday—smashing the previous daily record for Feb. 4, which was set in 1927 with 2.55 inches of rain.

"Y’all are so fucking stupid bro there is literally a flash flood warning in Los Angeles her bodyguard is allowed to hold an umbrella," wrote one unconvinced X user.

"There’s a god damn rainstorm in LA what are you on bro," posted someone else.

Cyrus, who won best record of the year with her hit song "Flowers," has dealt with threats and dangerous situations before.

In September, she was granted a restraining order against a stalker who showed up to her house and sent numerous unwanted letters. And in 2019, a different man was arrested after making threats that he wanted to impregnate Cyrus.
